impronta

AUGUST 2024

Sorondo Projects is happy to present "Impronta", the first Solo Exhibition by Antonela Aiassa, an Argentinean artist whose work bridges the geographic and cultural spaces of Barcelona and Buenos Aires. This exhibition is a deep exploration of the concept of the "imprint"—the physical and emotional marks left by the artist on her materials, and the traces left by nature and life on the artist herself.

Aiassa’s work is an ongoing conversation between the tactile and the visual, the organic and the crafted. Her sculptures, shaped from clay and other natural materials, are more than mere objects; they are records of a process, capturing the intimate moment of creation. These works reflect Aiassa's deep connection with the earth, each piece embodying the raw, unfiltered essence of natural forms. The surfaces of her sculptures, marked by her hands, tell stories of both control and surrender, revealing a delicate balance between human intervention and the inherent qualities of the materials.

In her paintings, Aiassa extends this exploration of the imprint through the use of Indian ink. Her lines, drawn with a deliberate yet fluid hand, are inspired by the minimalism and precision of Japanese nature drawings. These black, sinuous lines traverse the canvas, creating dynamic compositions that resonate with both the tranquil rhythms of the Mediterranean and the vibrant, pulsating energy of Buenos Aires. The simplicity of these forms invites viewers to engage in a meditative contemplation, where each line speaks of nature’s quiet power and the subtle impact of human touch.

"Impronta" is more than a collection of artworks; it is an invitation to reflect on the imprints we leave—on materials, on nature, on each other. Aiassa’s practice is deeply personal, yet it taps into universal themes of creation, connection, and transformation. Her work suggests that every interaction, every touch, leaves a mark, whether visible or invisible, that contributes to the ongoing dialogue between the human and the natural world.

Through this exhibition, Aiassa invites us to see the world through her eyes, to feel the weight of our presence, and to recognize the delicate dance between the marks we make and the marks left upon us. "Impronta" is a manifestation of the enduring relationship between nature and humanity, captured through the tactile language of sculpture and the visual poetry of painting. Each piece in this exhibition is a reminder that our imprints are both a reflection of our inner selves and a response to the world we inhabit.
